Video: Fire Destroys Hundreds of Shops in Bangladesh Market

A massive fire has destroyed hundreds of shops in a market in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. There have been no reports of casualties or injuries, especially since the fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday morning before the shops opened. Officials stated that army forces and firefighters managed to control the fire within six hours after it spread rapidly in the Mohammadpur market due to a large quantity of flammable materials like cooking oils and plastics. A fire department official reported that no victims were caused by the fire, which possibly ignited due to an electrical short circuit.

Fires are common in densely populated Dhaka, which has seen a construction boom in recent years, and safety protocols are often lacking in new buildings.
