The media office of the Lebanese Forces Party issued a statement urging the Speaker of the Parliament, Nabih Berri, to "call for an electoral session as soon as possible," asserting, "Let those who succeed succeed; these are elections and they happen this way."
The statement continued: "Mr. Speaker Nabih Berri, you are in the position of the presidency of the Parliament, not in the position of leading the opposition, and it is therefore your duty, from the very first moment, to call for an open parliamentary session to elect a president for the Republic. However, what you have done is that you are seemingly calling for electoral sessions, while practically, your deputies and the deputies of your allies are obstructing these sessions, and this behavior has continued up to the present moment."
The office emphasized that "the opposition is capable of managing its affairs by itself and is ready at any moment to attend an electoral session." The Lebanese Forces Party indicated that the presidency of the Parliament is overstepping its powers by positioning itself simultaneously as both the ruling coalition and the opposition, which is not within its authority at all.
