Egypt executed Mohamed Adel today, Wednesday, the man convicted of killing university student Naira Ashraf, who was brutally murdered in front of the Faculty of Arts at Mansoura University in Dakahlia Governorate. The Attorney General ordered on June 22 of last year to refer Adel to the criminal court for his deliberate premeditated murder of the victim, stating that he had the intention and premeditated plan to kill her, followed her, and attacked her with a knife multiple times. He also slit her throat with the intention of taking her life, according to the referral decision. Evidence confirmed his involvement through testimonies from 25 witnesses, including students, university security personnel, and store workers in the vicinity of the incident, who saw the accused committing the crime, including Naira's classmates who were with her when the attacker struck, and others he threatened when they attempted to defend her.
Naira's father commented on the execution of the accused today, saying: "I thank my Lord that my daughter will rest in her grave after the execution. But my daughter will not return again, and I am not happy, but it is God's justice." It is worth mentioning that Adel's murder of his colleague Naira Ashraf last year in broad daylight in front of Mansoura University's Faculty of Arts shocked public opinion in Egypt, reaching the point of demands for his execution live on air to serve as a lesson to anyone who would dare commit such heinous crimes.
In the afternoon, the family of the young man who was executed received the body from the Mansoura International Hospital morgue for burial in his hometown in Mahalla al-Kubra in Gharbia Governorate.
