Resumption of Air Traffic at Baghdad Airport After Suspension Due to Weather Conditions

Air traffic at Baghdad Airport has resumed after being suspended due to weather conditions. The airport administration announced the halt in operations due to poor weather, stating in a tweet: "Notice... The administration of Baghdad International Airport wishes to clarify to all our esteemed passengers and airlines operating at the airport that air traffic has been halted due to weather conditions and visibility has dropped to less than 400 meters." They added, "You will be informed of any updates regarding air traffic at the airport."

On another note, authorities announced the closure of schools in several provinces due to adverse weather conditions. The Education Directorate of Wasit announced in a statement published by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that school attendance would be suspended on Monday. Similarly, Salah al-Din Province announced a suspension of official working hours in all its schools on Monday, except for schools in Balad district. A statement from the office of Salah al-Din’s governor, Ismail Khadir al-Haloub, published by the agency, indicated that the decision to suspend classes was made in response to requests from residents across the province due to bad weather and difficulties in transportation caused by heavy fog in the early morning hours.

Dhi Qar Province experienced heavy rainfall continuously from Friday night to Saturday, resulting in material damage to several homes and residential neighborhoods in some of the province's cities. The cities of Nasiriyah and Rifa’i in the north of the province recorded the highest rainfall this year with a total of 37 mm. Two employees from the Ministry of Electricity lost their lives in Dhi Qar on Saturday while attempting to repair electrical transformers that had stopped functioning due to the intense rainfall, according to a reporter from "Al-Hurra" in Iraq. Municipalities, civil defense, and electricity departments were placed on alert to address the impacts of the heavy rain, while the local government confirmed its efforts to restore normalcy by draining rainwater from the streets.
