Fire Devours Shops in Sayyida Zeinab Market

A massive fire consumed dozens of stores and kiosks in a commercial market in the popular Sayyida Zeinab district in central Cairo today, Tuesday. The Civil Defense forces extinguished the fire that broke out in a market approximately 70 years old, adjacent to the Sayyida Zeinab Mosque. The incident resulted in material losses amounting to millions of Egyptian pounds, with minor injuries reported due to smoke inhalation. Authorities dispatched fire engines and civil defense units to manage the situation, as well as ambulances and local leaders to the scene.

The Public Prosecution reported that the fire in Sayyida Zeinab Market caused losses estimated in the millions, while the district head stated that no injuries occurred.

This fire in Sayyida Zeinab Market follows a massive blaze that occurred just 24 hours earlier, which charred the building of the Ismailia Security Directorate in eastern Egypt, causing injuries to dozens, and an investigation is ongoing into the causes.
