Legislative Session Coming Soon... Will the Quorum be Achieved?

It is expected that Speaker Nabih Berri will call for a legislative session soon, especially after completing discussions and consultations with parliamentary blocs and political forces to convene it, particularly since several prominent projects and draft laws will be included on its agenda, including those approved recently by the Cabinet, such as allocations for medicines for serious diseases, among other projects, as well as laws currently being studied by parliamentary committees, some of which have been referred to the General Assembly. Informed parliamentary sources tell "Akhbar Al-Yawm" agency that it is possible to present the capital control draft law alongside the financial balance draft law if the Finance and Budget Committee completes its study and approval. They emphasized that these proposals are necessary and must be approved as they are required by the international community and the International Monetary Fund, given that they are reform laws.

Therefore, the sources continue, there is a necessity to hold such a session, but it faces numerous difficulties, including the lack of quorum, in addition to the objections from change-oriented MPs regarding the session, as they consider that the council is in a permanent state of meeting for the purpose of electing a president for the republic, which is also supported by other blocs. This places the issue of achieving a quorum in front of some obstacles unless the efforts and talks that Berri will conduct produce some positive outcomes towards holding a legislative session deemed necessary by parliamentary sources at this particular time.
