Title: Acquittal of Amnesty International Director in Turkey on Terrorism Charges

Amnesty International announced today, Tuesday, that a Turkish court ruled to retry a longstanding case, acquitting former local president of the organization, Taner Kılıç, and three other human rights activists of terrorism-related charges. The Turkish Court of Cassation had returned Kılıç's case to a lower court last year on the basis of "incomplete investigation." The international organization stated that the lower court found the four defendants not guilty due to insufficient evidence. At that time, the prosecution alleged that the defendants, who were participating in a workshop on digital security on the island of Büyükada near Istanbul, had met in a secret gathering to organize an uprising and incite chaos.
