Ramos in Shock After Requesting Referee to Review Video Technology

Defender Sergio Ramos was sent off during the match in which his team Sevilla lost to Real Sociedad 1-2 on Sunday, as part of the 14th week of La Liga. Ramos received a second yellow card (indirect red) in the 88th minute after a violent tackle on a Real Sociedad player. However, the veteran defender strongly protested the referee's decision and requested him to use the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to review the incident.

Indeed, referee Miguel Ortiz went to the pitch-side video technology to review what happened between Ramos and his opponent, and he retracted his decision to show Ramos a second yellow card. However, the referee shocked Ramos by issuing a direct red card against him, ordering him off the pitch as he deemed the tackle to be violent and deserving of a direct dismissal rather than a warning.

The Spanish sports statistics network "Mister Chip" reported that the 37-year-old Ramos set a record by becoming the most sent-off Spanish player in his professional career, having received 30 red cards, which includes one card with his early team Sevilla Atlético, 26 cards with his former team Real Madrid, two cards with his prior team Paris Saint-Germain, and one red card with his current team Sevilla.
