Wall Street Opens Lower

The main indices of Wall Street opened slightly lower on the last day of 2023, which saw the S&P 500 approaching a record level due to increasing expectations that the Federal Reserve (the U.S. central bank) will lower interest rates early next year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 8.47 points or 0.02 percent to 37,701.63 points at the opening. The S&P 500 opened down by 0.47 points or 0.01 percent to 4,782.88 points, while the Nasdaq Composite rose by 4.06 points or 0.03 percent to 15,099.20 points at the opening.
