The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, announced today, Tuesday, that about 12 countries are expected to start generating electricity from nuclear energy sources in the coming years. Grossi stated in remarks at the World Nuclear Exhibition in Paris that according to the calculations of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the number of nuclear reactors in the world, currently about 400, needs to double to achieve the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement. He continued, "We already have 10 countries that have entered the decision-making phase (for building nuclear power plants) and 17 other countries in the evaluation stage." He added, "There will be about 12 or 13 new nuclear countries within a few years." Grossi mentioned Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Namibia, the Philippines, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan among the potential new nuclear countries.
