Israeli Army Withdraws from Jenin and Announces the Death of One of Its Officers

The Israeli army announced early Wednesday the death of an Israeli soldier during the operation launched in the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. The Israeli army statement said, "This evening (Tuesday), a serviceman was killed by live fire during the operation... in the Jenin camp."

Israeli forces withdrew from the Palestinian city of Jenin late Tuesday evening after carrying out one of the largest military operations in the occupied West Bank in years, which lasted 44 hours. Columns of Israeli army vehicles were seen leaving Jenin, seemingly indicating the end of the Israeli operation that began early Monday morning.

Palestinian media reported sporadic clashes with Israeli forces during their withdrawal from the city. After the Israeli forces' withdrawal, residents of the camp, who had left during the fighting, began returning to its dark streets. Some of them surveyed the damage using their mobile phone lights. In a related context, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced late Tuesday-Wednesday the death of a second Palestinian in Jenin, raising the death toll from the Israeli operation to 12, while more than 120 others were injured.
