The first match ended with Lebanon winning against Syria (3-2). The draw for the West Asian Championship placed Lebanon in Group C alongside Yemen and Oman, with matches taking place in Baghdad. Group A includes Iraq (the host), the UAE, and Jordan, while Palestine, Iran, and Syria make up Group B.
The West Asian Championship serves as a preparatory event for the Asian qualifiers, where Lebanon has been drawn in Group 10 alongside the defending champion Saudi Arabia, Cambodia, and Mongolia, scheduled for September 4 to 12.
