Avalanche in California Ski Resort Claims One Life

One person was killed and another injured due to an avalanche that occurred at a ski resort in California on Wednesday. Authorities in Placer County reported that no additional missing persons have been reported following the avalanche at the Palisades Tahoe resort, located about 161 kilometers northeast of San Francisco. The cause of the avalanche was not immediately clear, although the mountainous area experienced heavy snowfall over the past day. The resort, formerly known as Squaw Valley, opened in 1949 and hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics.
