The Board of Directors of the Association of Banks in Lebanon decided, after a meeting held this morning, to convene an extraordinary general assembly next Friday, according to information from "Al Markazia". This meeting aims to consider possible steps forward in light of the developments expected during the current week regarding banks' demands. Decisions may include continued operations, returning to a strike, or other escalatory measures depending on the situation.
This week, anticipation is high regarding developments in the banking sector, especially after the Association of Banks responded positively to the request of the caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and temporarily suspended its strike for one week to allow for the resolution of outstanding issues with the judicial authority.
Notably, banks resumed their operations today following a partial strike that lasted three weeks, during which ATMs continued to provide cash for individuals and businesses. As expected, there was a significant influx of customers looking to manage their pending matters, especially at ATMs, as the end of the month approaches—the time for salary and wage payments in the public and private sectors.
