Nigerian police announced that at least ten people were killed by "Boko Haram militants" in Yobe State, northeastern Nigeria, in the latest attack in an area where security forces are facing a prolonged insurgency. International relief organizations have reported that the Boko Haram insurgency, which began in northeastern Nigeria in 2009, has resulted in over 350,000 deaths and forced at least two million people to flee their homes. Yobe State police spokesperson Dongus Abdulkareem stated that "the attack occurred in the Geidam local government area in Buni Yadi on Friday when a group of villagers was ambushed by Boko Haram militants while searching for a missing villager." He noted in a statement to Reuters that "ten bodies were found, and security personnel have been dispatched to the area to confront the militants, who frequently return to that specific region."
