Chinese warplanes have crossed the median line in the Taiwan Strait again. The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense stated on Tuesday morning that "8 Chinese fighter jets crossed the median line, and 4 Chinese warships joined a joint combat readiness patrol." In this context, Taiwanese Deputy Foreign Minister Roy Lee confirmed to reporters that one of the government's reasons for wanting foreign lawmakers, officials, and academics to visit the island is to witness the situation on the ground. He said, "Many colleagues and friends outside Taiwan are facing this disturbing misinformation campaign. They have perceptions and understandings that do not match the situation in Taiwan. We are confident that when they come here, they will see that Taiwan is very calm, and we are not engaging in any provocations or dangerous moves." Over the past three years, Taiwan has complained about almost daily incursions by Chinese air forces near the island, as well as periodic crossings of the median line, which serves as an unofficial boundary since August.
