Egyptian authorities received a report of 12 children suffocating after inhaling chlorine in a swimming pool at a club in the Sporting area of Alexandria. The injured were transported to the Poison Control Center at the Al-Amiri Hospital in Alexandria, with three being admitted to intensive care due to the severity of their conditions.
Authorities dispatched about five ambulances to the scene of the incident. It was confirmed that the conditions of some of the injured stabilized, and they were returned home.
Authorities decided to open an investigation into the incident, review the licenses and documents of swimming pools, and determine the chlorine levels in the pool water to check whether they exceeded the permissible limit or if the incident occurred due to an explosion in the chlorine tank.
Additionally, authorities decided to close the swimming pools and take necessary legal actions regarding the incident.
