Dubai Ports World Australia announced on Monday that it has resumed operations at all its facilities following a cyber attack that forced it to suspend operations for three days. The breach disrupted the operations of the company, which manages about 40 percent of the goods flowing in and out of the country, and halted operations at container terminals in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Fremantle in Western Australia since Friday.
The company, owned by Dubai Ports World, stated in a release, "Operations at the company's ports across Australia resumed at 9 AM today (22:00 GMT on Sunday) following successful tests of essential systems overnight."
Dubai Ports World expects to handle around five thousand containers from four container terminals in Australia overnight, although the ongoing investigation and measures taken to protect its networks may lead to temporary disruptions in the coming days. The company noted, "This is part of the investigation process and the resumption of normal logistics operations on this scale."
Upon discovering the breach on Friday, Dubai Ports World, one of the few companies in the shipping and unloading sector in Australia, cut internet access, which significantly affected shipping movements. Australia has seen an increase in cyber breaches since late last year, prompting the government to amend regulations and establish an agency to help coordinate responses to breaches.
