US State Department Emphasizes Reform Implementation in Lebanon Following Quintet Meeting

The US State Department, on Monday, noted that the quintet meeting in Qatar, which brought together representatives from Egypt, France, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the US, focused on urgent Lebanese issues, such as expediting the presidential elections and implementing economic reforms. The State Department stated that "the US and other countries emphasized the need for judicial reforms and the rule of law in Lebanon, particularly regarding the investigation into the Beirut port explosion in 2020." It also expressed "concern over the lack of a presidential election to succeed President Michel Aoun thus far."
