Bassam Mawlawi, the Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government, emphasized that "Arab countries are friends of Lebanon and care about its interests," asserting that "there is no fear of security incidents." He stated, "For us, we must maintain the security of our country, and what happens in the camps should not extend outside of them."
In a conversation with journalists, Mawlawi pointed out that "it is essential to ensure that no armed individuals are present on Lebanese territory, and we do not implement anyone else's agendas." He added, "We do not accept security chaos, and any support for armed factions is rejected; we refuse unregulated weapons, and we do not accept any threats to the security of Lebanese or Arabs in Lebanon."
He continued: "There are armed groups in the camps, and this is under the army's jurisdiction, which acts with precision and wisdom; the army leadership is aware and knows how to deal with the circumstances."
The Minister chaired a meeting of the Central Internal Security Council today, Monday, at his office in the ministry, to discuss the recent security developments, especially in light of warning statements from several embassies, and to make appropriate decisions to ensure the security of the country.
Last week, the Ain al-Hilweh camp witnessed a wave of violence, during which various types of rockets and heavy machine guns were used.
