Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that "intelligence agencies in his country have obtained information that Russia is thinking about carrying out a terrorist attack on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant." He did not specify the evidence that the intelligence agencies relied upon to verify this information.
Zelensky stated in a video message: "Ukraine has informed all international partners about this information." He added: "I have had to remind (people) more than once that radiation knows no state borders. Only the direction of the wind will determine who is affected."
Zelensky made these comments two days after the Ukrainian military intelligence chief accused Russia of "mining" the cooling waters used to keep the reactors at the Zaporizhzhia plant cool. Russian forces have occupied vast areas of southern and eastern Ukraine and unilaterally declared these regions part of Russia. Moscow plans to hold elections in the occupied territories there next September.
