Manchester City striker Erling Haaland wasted no time in kicking off the new season of the Premier League, returning to his goal-scoring ways with two goals as the defending champions triumphed 3-0 over newly promoted Burnley at Turf Moor today. Haaland, who scored 36 goals in the Premier League last season and 52 in all competitions with City, put his team ahead after just four minutes.
A stunning finish from the Norwegian in the 36th minute extended City's lead to two, allowing them to dominate the match. However, the only downside for City in today's match was the injury to Kevin De Bruyne, which forced him to leave the pitch in the first half.
Rodri scored the third goal for City from close range in the 75th minute in a challenging start for Burnley, who are back in the top flight and coached by former City captain Vincent Kompany.
To make matters worse for Burnley, substitute Anass Zaroury received a red card during stoppage time for a reckless challenge on Kyle Walker.
