Khaled Mashal, the head of Hamas abroad, commented on the assassination of the movement's Deputy Political Bureau Chief, Saleh Al-Arouri, stating that "the martyrdom of Hamas leaders proves that the path of martyrdom is a choice for the movement's leaders just as it is for its soldiers. The blood of Al-Arouri and his martyr companions is mixed with the blood of Gaza, which is creating a historic epic in the Battle of the Flood of Al-Aqsa." Mashal emphasized that "we are concerned with the security and interests of every Arab country; our battle is only with the Zionist enemy. The occupation wants to export its crisis abroad amid its failure in Gaza and aims to expand the circle of aggression." He stated: "The occupation is mistaken if it thinks that the assassination of leaders will break the resistance."
