Al-Jumail: We Refuse to Be Threatened by Vacuum

Lebanese Kataeb Party leader MP Sami al-Jumail confirmed that he will do everything in his power to "prevent the election of any president who adopts the resistance approach that destroys what remains of the country's components." He called on opposition factions for "more coordination to create a balance against those who seek to leave the country in its current state."

Following his meeting with the Maronite Archbishop of Antelias, Bishop Antoine Bou Najm, who was sent by Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, al-Jumail emphasized the seriousness of the initiative being undertaken by Bkirki and the way issues are approached. He stated, "We will not submit to the equation of either electing the president we want or no president at all. We rejected this last time while others complied and succeeded in bringing their candidate to power, which destroyed the country. However, this time we will not accept being threatened with a vacuum to comply with conditions that we believe are not in Lebanon's interest."

He added, "The only certainty is that we will not allow the country to continue on the course it has been on for the past six years, as repeating this means the end of Lebanon as we envision it and a push toward more emigration, despair, and surrender. We want a president who gives hope to Lebanon and a new generation of youth aspiring to live in a civilized and developed country."
