The Ukrainian military revealed that its defenses shot down 15 out of 18 Russian missiles launched from strategic aircraft over the Caspian Sea on Monday. Local authorities in the Kyiv region indicated that "there is a threat of missile strikes in the early hours of Monday in the area, following alerts from emergency services about air raids across Ukraine."
The Kyiv regional administration announced on Telegram: "Threat of missile strike! Stay in shelters." President Volodymyr Zelensky's office director stated, "Take care of your safety." Ukrainian media reported "explosions in the Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy regions."
An army spokesperson considered the destruction of Russian supply and logistics capabilities a key element in preparation for the anticipated Ukrainian counteroffensive against Russia, following the destruction of a large Russian fuel storage facility in Crimea by a fire.
While Kyiv has not explicitly acknowledged targeting the fuel storage facility in the Crimean port of Sevastopol, the Ukrainian military command confirmed that "a fire destroyed approximately ten oil tanks with a capacity of 40,000 tons."
The Moscow-appointed governor of Sevastopol blamed Ukraine for the fire, stating, "The fire was extinguished before a disaster occurred." Natalia Humeniuk, spokesperson for Ukraine's southern command, stated, "The fire caused significant concern in the Russian military."
Ukrainian media quoted Humeniuk on national television on Sunday, saying: "Russian supply and logistics capabilities are being destroyed, so Russia feels its resources are being depleted, and they have started to maneuver."
