On Monday evening, an explosion occurred inside a house in Virginia, a suburb of Washington D.C., while officers were attempting to execute a search warrant. A loud noise was heard in the area, the power went out, and flames were seen rising from a nearby street in Arlington, separated from the capital by the Potomac River.
According to a statement from the Arlington County Police Department, the explosion happened when a suspect fired multiple rounds inside the house. Firefighters began working to extinguish the fire. The police had earlier stated that they were investigating the matter after someone launched a flare from the house.
