The foreign ministers of Syria and Iran expressed their welcome for the improvement of diplomatic relations between Damascus and regional countries during a joint press conference in Damascus today, Thursday, following the severe earthquake that occurred last month.
Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad noted that Syria aims to restore relations to normalcy with regional countries after more than a decade of political isolation of President Bashar al-Assad due to the war. He stated, "Our mission now in the region is to restore normal conditions between our countries as we are all concerned about facing challenges, whether they are the challenges of foreign presence on Arab land or the threats we are exposed to and the double standards we encounter in all regional countries."
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian emphasized that his country also welcomes any initiative for dialogue aimed at reaching an understanding in the region, including the quadripartite meetings (Iran, Russia, Syria, and Turkey) aimed at achieving cooperation, overcoming regional crises, and resolving the Syrian crisis.
