The president of Inter Miami, competing in Major League Soccer, Jorge Mas, announced today, Tuesday, that Jordi Alba, the former Barcelona defender, will join Lionel Messi on the team.
The 34-year-old left-back left Barcelona at the end of last season after playing over 450 matches with the club, winning the Champions League in 2015, six La Liga titles, five Copa del Rey titles, four Spanish Super Cups, and the Club World Cup.
Alba, who has earned over 90 international caps for Spain, will be among several former Barcelona players in the Inter Miami squad, which also includes Messi and Sergio Busquets.
Mas mentioned today, "He has already signed a contract and will arrive in the next few days. Tata (coach Gerardo Martino) is counting on him."
Inter Miami is also looking to sign former Barcelona player Luis Suarez from Uruguay, who currently plays with Grêmio in Brazil. Mas stated that he has already opened negotiations with the player, but "he is currently with Grêmio, and I respect that."
