UN reveals the number of journalists killed in 2023

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, revealed that "more than 46 journalists have been killed in 2023 around the world." He noted that "over 531 journalists have been imprisoned, and impunity for these crimes is increasing." The High Commissioner added: "So far this year, more than 46 journalists have been killed due to their work and professional activities, and more than 531 journalists have been imprisoned, while countless others have suffered unbearable harassment and violence." He continued: "Such crimes must never go unpunished. These attacks on journalists are completely unacceptable."
