The Chinese government and state-controlled entities have spent over $5.5 million on properties owned by former U.S. President Donald Trump during his time in office. This amount represents the largest total payments made by any known foreign country so far, according to financial documents mentioned in a report released today by House Democrats.
These payments collectively include millions of dollars from the Chinese Embassy in the United States, from a state-owned Chinese bank accused by the U.S. Department of Justice of helping North Korea evade sanctions, and from a state-owned Chinese air transport company. The Democrats on the House Oversight Committee obtained accounting records from Trump's former accounting firm, Mazars USA.
In the report, House Democrats stated that China is one of 20 countries that paid at least $7.8 million in total payments to Trump's businesses and properties during the former president's time in the White House, including his hotels in Washington D.C., New York, and Las Vegas.
