18 Killed in Attack in Eastern Congo

A local official in the Democratic Republic of Congo reported that armed militants attacked a village in the Ituri region in the east of the country on Thursday, resulting in the death of at least 18 people and injuring 12 others. Colonel John Ciro Simba Bonga, an official in the Irumu area where the attack took place, revealed that the attackers burned three bodies but buried another 15. Alain Kalito, a survivor of the attack, mentioned that there were children among the victims and that his father was seriously injured. Christophe Munyandiro, the coordinator of the Congolese Human Rights Organization in the Irumu area, stated that the attack caused many people to be displaced once again. The region is home to numerous armed groups, and millions have been forced to flee their homes due to violence.
