German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated today that Africa can count on Germany for early investment in green hydrogen production, which Germany, the largest economy in Europe, will need to import in large quantities to achieve carbon neutrality. Scholz made these remarks ahead of the "Agreement with Africa" G20 conference in Berlin, which will bring together heads of state from more than a dozen African countries. He said, "The production of hydrogen requires a significant initial investment, so there must be signals for long-term and sustainable cooperation." He added, "The purpose of the Agreement with Africa conference is to send a message that you can rely on Germany as a partner."
