The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the decision by Saudi Arabia to appoint an extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the State of Palestine and a Consul General in Jerusalem. The ministry stated that "the timing of this decision reflects the Kingdom's interest in the Palestinian cause, as it is one of the foundations of the Kingdom's foreign policy at the Arab, Islamic, and international levels. Additionally, it signifies the continuation of Saudi Arabia's historical and brotherly positions supporting the Palestinian cause and the rights of its people." The ministry also expressed its readiness to fully cooperate with Ambassador Naif Al-Sudairi to facilitate his new duties in order to elevate the status of Arabs and Muslims and to develop and enhance the special bilateral relations between the Kingdom and the State of Palestine. Palestinian officials announced that they received, on Saturday, a copy of the credentials of the first Saudi ambassador, in a move that signifies support even as the Kingdom considers the possibility of establishing official diplomatic relations with Israel.
