Elon Musk launched his AI startup, X.AI, on Wednesday, which includes a team of engineers from the same American tech companies that Musk hopes to compete with in his attempt to create an alternative to the ChatGPT platform. The startup stated on its website, "We have been working on developing some of the biggest breakthroughs in the field and have also been pioneers in this area, including AlphaStar, GPT-3.5, and GPT-4."
The company’s team will include several former engineers and scientists from Google, owned by Alphabet, Microsoft, and OpenAI. The company, which is looking for experienced engineers and researchers to join its technical team in the San Francisco Bay Area, will hold an event via Twitter Spaces on July 14.
Musk indicated that the reason for launching X.AI is to "understand the true nature of the universe." Musk also co-founded OpenAI but later left the startup in a move attributed to the surge in generative AI. He has warned for months about the potential for AI to "destroy civilizations," stating that the race among companies like Google and Microsoft to develop the technology should pause to allow time for the formulation of regulatory frameworks related to the sector.
