American authorities announced the identification of two victims of the September 11 attacks, 22 years after they occurred, using advanced DNA analysis techniques. The authorities indicated that the victims, a man and a woman, died as a result of the collapse of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, but they refrained from disclosing their identities at the request of their families. With this, the number of identified individuals rises to 1,649 out of 2,753 people who perished in the collapse of the towers in New York. New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed hope in a statement that the identification would provide "some comfort to the families of the victims," considering the ongoing efforts to identify the deceased as a reflection of the city's "steadfast commitment to reunite all victims of the World Trade Center with their loved ones."
