A flight operated by Chilean airline Latam was forced to land in Panama after one of the three crew members experienced a medical emergency that led to his death. The airline reported that flight LA 505, which was en route from Miami, USA, to Santiago, the capital of Chile, with 271 passengers on board, had to land in Panama City due to the medical emergency involving one of the flight crew.
The airline stated that despite all necessary procedures being followed, after medical assistance was provided on the ground, “unfortunately, the pilot passed away.” It added, “We are deeply saddened by what happened and express our sincere condolences to the pilot’s family. We appreciate his 25 years of professional service and his valuable contributions, professionalism, and dedication.”
For its part, the Panama Civil Aviation Authority reported that it received an emergency call early Tuesday from the crew of flight Latam LA 505, requesting entry into Panamanian airspace and permission to land at Tocumen International Airport. It clarified that the flight resumed its route at 5 PM local time when the aircraft took off from Tocumen International Airport, heading to Santiago, Chile.
