The fifth edition of the International Festival of Environmental Cinema has commenced in the city of Gabès, southeastern Tunisia, under the slogan "In Cinema, More Than Life," featuring 35 environmental documentary films. The festival, which started locally and has gained international status, aims to utilize cinema as a means of raising awareness and fostering social change regarding environmental issues, biodiversity, and sustainable development. This year's edition includes films from Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Libya, Oman, Turkey, Italy, Spain, and Senegal. The jury is chaired by Tunisian actress and director Wahida Dridi, with members including Syrian director Mohannad Kalthoum, Lebanese producer Mohamed Abbas Sarji, Moroccan screenwriter Nour Eddine Jamai, and Iraqi director Hussein Al-Akeeli. In addition to free film screenings available to the public, the festival program, extending until December 11, includes workshops, seminars, cultural events, and interactive activities aimed at children.
