Juliet Tohme, the director of media and communication at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), stated that "the situation in the Gaza Strip is horrifying, and a quarter of the population is starving." In an interview with the BBC on Friday, Tohme said, "To give an idea of what is happening in Gaza now, the situation is horrifying." She added, "We have reached the point where it is said that a quarter of the population is starving, a direct result of the siege and the lack of basic supplies, including food." She mentioned that "when I was there recently, I saw the people of Gaza terrified, exhausted, and living in constant fear with ongoing bombardments." She concluded her remarks by saying, "What we need now is a ceasefire for humanitarian reasons and an increase in aid to the sector."
