Exceptional measures have been imposed due to the anticipated heatwave in Jordan, where temperatures are expected to reach 50 degrees Celsius in some areas, an unprecedented event for residents. The Meteorological Department warned of the danger of reduced visibility due to dust, especially in the desert regions, and of the risks associated with prolonged direct sunlight exposure, leaving children and the elderly inside closed vehicles, igniting fires in forested and grassy areas to prevent wildfires, and leaving sanitizers, perfumes, and flammable materials in vehicles. The Civil Defense Directorate has raised its operational and field readiness in implementation of the directives from the Director of Public Security, Major General Obaidallah Al-Maaitah.
Civil Defense Director, Brigadier General Muhammad Al-Omari, urged adherence to advice and guidelines, such as avoiding direct sunlight exposure, drinking sufficient fluids, not allowing children to play under the sun for long periods, not leaving them alone in closed vehicles, and refraining from leaving sanitizers, perfumes, and similar flammable materials in vehicles. He emphasized the need to avoid igniting fires in forested and grassy areas to prevent wildfires. It has been decided to suspend classes at universities, and to reduce working hours for cleaning workers and field staff over the next three days following warnings issued by weather prediction centers regarding the heatwave affecting Jordan.
