The spokesperson for the European Union for the Middle East and North Africa, Luis Miguel Bueno, announced that the EU is awaiting official information regarding the reasons for the arrest of the leader of the Ennahda Movement, Rached Ghannouchi. He emphasized the necessity of respecting the rights of defense and ensuring the right to a fair trial. He stressed the importance of adhering to the principle of political pluralism, noting that these principles are fundamental to all democracies and are the basis of the partnership between Tunisia and the European Union. The European official pointed out that they are "watching with concern the recent developments in Tunisia following Ghannouchi's arrest and the closure of the movement's headquarters in Tunis," considering it "part of a series of arrests that have recently included activists from various opposition groups."
