Lebanon is participating in the fifth Asia-Pacific Amateur Golf Championship for women, hosted in Singapore from March 9 to 12. The Lebanese player Vanessa Rishani, aged 21, is among 85 players representing 22 Asian countries, including the only two Arab countries: Lebanon and Qatar.
Rishani qualified for the tournament based on her sporting results achieved in various competitions and continental championships, in addition to her international record, which includes: participation in the ninth Arab Championship held in Sousse, Tunisia in 2017, where she won a bronze medal after finishing third in the individual ranking; and participation with the Lebanese Golf Federation team in the 2018 World Championship, which marked Lebanon's first participation in this event.
At the press conference introducing the participants for the upcoming Asian Championship, Rishani stated: "Golf in Lebanon did not receive much attention in the past until the election of the current Lebanese Federation led by Karim Selim Salam, despite the existence of a single golf course in Lebanon and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sport in recent times."
For his part, the President of the Lebanese Golf Federation, Karim Selim Salam, expressed his pride in Lebanon's participation in the championship and viewed it as a significant step in affirming the presence of Lebanese golf on the Asian map through the adoption of development and enhancement plans and policies aimed at engaging with talents in the diaspora for national representation, expressing his pride and appreciation for Vanessa Rishani in this regard.
