The President of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Jaja, warmly appreciated the position expressed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk. Turk confirmed today in the opening session of the 54th session of the UN Human Rights Council that "three years after the Beirut explosion, there has been no accountability, and it is time to consider sending an international fact-finding mission to investigate the related human rights violations of this tragedy." Jaja reminded that the stance of the Lebanese Forces since the moment of the explosion, which destroyed half of Beirut, has been to call for the formation of an international fact-finding committee, as it is impossible to reach the truth in Lebanon amidst the resistance's clampdown on the state and its institutions and their continuous efforts to obscure the facts and undermine justice. The President of the Lebanese Forces hoped that the position of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, would be implemented promptly and effectively to reveal the truth, achieve justice, and accountability, and to put an end to the ongoing procrastination.
