At least 40 people were killed in a tanker explosion following an accident in central Liberia, police announced on Tuesday. The tanker, loaded with gasoline, caught fire after falling into a hole on a road in Tututa, 130 kilometers from the capital Monrovia. Dr. Francis Kate told local channel Super Bongese TV that it is difficult to determine the exact number of victims as some have been reduced to ashes, but he estimated that more than 40 people died in the incident. He stated to AFP, "We have a team moving from house to house to check for the missing." Earlier, police reported that 15 people were killed and at least 30 others were injured due to bystanders gathering at the scene.
