This morning, Sunday, a climate of mutual protests arose between two groups of citizens at the public swimming pool shore in the city of Sidon, triggered by an incident concerning a woman wearing a swimsuit on the beach, which was opposed by local religious leaders. This incident led to a wave of supporters and detractors on social media, culminating in a decision by one group to hold a press conference at the location in support of a woman's right to wear a swimsuit. In response, the opposing group organized a counter-action against this reality.
Despite a decision from Sidon's Mayor Mohamed Saudi to prohibit any press conferences, activities, or gatherings at the swimming pool shore, confrontations occurred between the two sides. Security forces and local police promptly intervened to separate them amid the loud clamor of both factions, each firm on their stance.
Following attempts by the security forces to disperse the confrontations, chaos ensued for an hour and a half, marked by individual clashes, pushing, and limited injuries. As a result, three individuals were arrested, which ultimately led to both sides withdrawing from the area in compliance with the security forces' request, who successfully restored calm to the scene.
