The Minister of Displaced Persons in the Lebanese caretaker government, Essam Sharaf El-Din, stated that "the international community is complicit in the issue of the return of Syrian displaced persons to their country, and therefore, a bilateral plan between Lebanon and the Syrian state is necessary."
In exclusive statements to "Sputnik," Sharaf El-Din mentioned that “controlling the land borders, which stretch 358 km, is impossible at the present time, as the number of the Lebanese army is insufficient, and we need seven times the current number.”
He pointed out that "the challenges are economic, environmental, educational, and security-related, with the latter being alarming, as it is expected that security incidents will occur after years or decades, similar to what is happening today in the Ain al-Hilweh camp and what happened previously in the Nahr al-Bared camp."
Sharaf El-Din also noted that "it is clear that the caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib, and Gibran Bassil are handling this national file lightly, betting on wasting time because they are beholden to the whims of the brazen West."
