Somali authorities reported today, Tuesday, that a suicide bombing in the capital, Mogadishu, resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to two others in an attack claimed by the militant group Al-Shabaab. Police spokesperson Sadik Ali stated that while officers were pursuing the assailant, the bomber detonated himself at the entrance of an Indian restaurant in the Hamruyn area of Mogadishu.
Al-Shabaab, which has links to Al-Qaeda, announced in a statement that the blast targeted local security officials, indicating that there were casualties whose number was not specified. The group frequently attacks military sites and civilian and government targets as part of its campaign to overthrow the Somali government and establish a regime based on its interpretation of Islamic law.
