The Egyptian Football Association announced the dismissal of the national team's Portuguese coach, Rui Vitoria, following the exit from the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after a loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo in a penalty shootout. The federation's board issued an official statement after their meeting on Sunday, which stated, "The Egyptian Federation's board decided, after discussing the technical and administrative reports regarding the national team's participation in the Ivory Coast 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, to thank the Portuguese Rui Vitoria, the head coach of the Egypt national team, and his coaching staff, while considering the resumes of foreign coaches to present in the next meeting." The board also decided to appoint Mohamed Youssef, a former player of Al Ahly and the Egypt national team, as the interim coach of the team until a foreign head coach and his staff are selected.
