Leipzig Retains DFB-Pokal Title

RB Leipzig retained the DFB-Pokal title after defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in Berlin on Saturday. Christopher Nkunku scored after the break and assisted the second goal for his teammate Dominik Szoboszlai. The first half was entertaining and even, with Timo Werner missing an early opportunity for Leipzig while Eintracht controlled the ball. Nkunku gave Leipzig the lead with a shot that deflected off Evan N'Dicka into the net in the 71st minute. Leipzig gained momentum as Nkunku set up the unmarked Szoboszlai to score the second goal five minutes from the end. This victory secured Bayer Leverkusen, currently in sixth place in the league, a spot in the Europa League, benefiting from Leipzig’s participation in the Champions League by finishing third. Leipzig is the first team, other than Bayern Munich, to retain the title since Schalke did so in 2001 and 2002.
