Government Efforts on Hold... Have the Doors to a Solution Closed?

Informed political sources have reported that there are no new developments regarding the government, and no movements have been observed that would put the formation file on the right track. They stated to "Al-Liwaa" that efforts are on hold and that even if direct communications take place among the concerned parties, the issue of the government is not addressed, as if the doors to a solution have closed. Discussion on this matter has been absent, except for what the President of the Republic stated before the French Foreign Minister, affirming his commitment to forming a new government, especially since time is not in Lebanon's favor given the difficult circumstances it faces. The sources noted that it is unclear when a signal will be given to revive the file if that is indeed possible.

Leading sources within the Shiite duo reassured that failure to form a government will not destabilize the situation, asserting that security is under control and there is no fear of chaos. President Michel Aoun will hand over his powers to the caretaker government; however, this does not eliminate the inevitability of entering a constitutional dispute regarding the president's powers and the role of the government. The sources indicated that the Free Patriotic Movement will not easily concede but has sent reassuring messages to international entities regarding its commitment to stability and adherence to the constitution.
