After describing the two explosions that struck Kerman province in the south of the country as terrorist acts, Iran confirmed that it would begin to pursue those involved internationally. Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian stated today, Thursday, that the country has initiated legal and international actions through the United Nations to pursue the perpetrators of the explosions that occurred yesterday in Kerman province in southeastern Iran. This comes after most Iranian officials threatened a harsh response against those involved. While some accused Israel of being involved in this "crime," a senior American official noted that the explosions appeared to be terrorist attacks similar to those usually carried out by ISIS.
It is worth mentioning that Iranian officials announced yesterday that the death toll from the explosions had reached 95, but the head of the Iranian Emergency Organization later clarified that the accurate number is 84. The nearly simultaneous explosions targeted crowds commemorating the fourth anniversary of the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, in Kerman province near the martyrs' cemetery where Soleimani is buried, amidst highly tense regional conditions due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
